Due to continued growth, Essex X-Ray is expanding its engineering team. As a world leader in the design and manufacture of high voltage technology, we develop innovative cable assemblies, connectors, interconnect systems and specialist engineering solutions for customers around the world. Based in our modern, purpose-built facility, equipped with advanced engineering and test capabilities, we provide an environment that supports high-quality product development and technical innovation. We are now looking for talented engineers to help drive the next stage of our product development and technical growth. Specialist high voltage experience is not required for either role, as full support and development will be provided for the right candidates.
As an Associate Engineer, you will support the design and development of high voltage components and systems, working alongside experienced engineers to build your technical capability. You will gain hands-on experience across the full product development lifecycle, including CAD modelling, prototype assembly, high voltage testing and engineering documentation.
You will develop a strong foundation in high voltage engineering, including insulation systems, dielectric materials and electric field behaviour, while learning how to apply engineering principles in a practical environment. You will also gain exposure to design for manufacture, structured problem solving and the use of engineering tools and analysis methods.
This role places a strong emphasis on training and personal development, with support from experienced engineers to help you build technical knowledge, confidence and capability. It is ideal for early-career engineers looking to develop into a well-rounded design engineer within a specialist and technically challenging field.
As a Design Engineer, you will take ownership of the design and development of high voltage systems and components, from concept through to validation. You will be responsible for producing detailed CAD models and engineering drawings, applying high voltage design principles and ensuring solutions are robust, manufacturable and reliable.
You will develop and apply your understanding of insulation systems, dielectric behaviour and electric field control to deliver effective engineering solutions. The role involves planning and supporting prototype testing, analysing performance and using structured problem solving to resolve technical challenges.
You will work closely with manufacturing, test and supply chain teams to ensure designs are practical and deliverable, while also contributing to concept development and continuous improvement activities. Strong communication, technical documentation and collaboration skills are key to success in this role.
